DALY, CHARLES "RANNY" (1904-1984)

Ranny Daly was born in Columbia, Missouri and began his radio career at WHB in Kansas City, followed by a program director job at KRNT in Des Moines, Iowa. He came to WING in Dayton in 1939. After a two year stint in the Marines he came back to WING as program director in 1944. While at WING he emceed the popular Man On the Street program as well as country flavored programs Cowboy Church and Ranny’s Roundup. In 1947, Paul Braden, his friend and former consulting engineer at WING, hired him to be the executive director and commercial manager of Braden’s brand new radio station, WPFB in Middletown. There he was responsible for programming the great live country and bluegrass in the late 1940s and early 1950s, including the WPFB Jamboree.
