Famous Old Time Music Company

The music store was started in 1972 by Harry Sparks and Mack Smith on Montgomery Road in Cincinnati. In 1978, it was purchased by Rich Hart, who acquired the Martin and Gibson musical instrument franchises for the area. In addition to selling instruments and supplies, the store played host to weekly bluegrass jams. Vernon McIntyre, Jr. along with his future wife Kitty and her brother Andy Schaeffer purchased the business in 1984 and moved it to 6019 Vine Street. In 2001 Vernon and Kitty bought an old school building at 20322 U.S. 33 near Wapakoneta, which they turned into a retail store, teaching studios, and the Boatwhistle Memorial Hall, where they held regular concerts, eventually closing the Cincinnati store. By 2013 they had decided to close the Wapakoneta facility and return to Cincinnati, where they concentrated on instrument repair and lessons from a location on Adams Road in Mt. Healthy. The shop's most recent location (as of early 2022) is at 1196 Ross Millville Road in Hamilton, Ohio.
