GODBEY, MARTHA ROWLAND “MARTY” (-2010)
Marty Godbey was born in North Carolina and grew up in Georgia, but spent much of her adult life in Lexington, Kentucky, where she lived with her husband Frank and traveled extensively to bluegrass shows and festivals, especially in the Ohio-Kentucky area. She wrote articles for Bluegrass Unlimited and other publications, which she illustrated with photographs she and/or Frank had taken. She wrote liner notes for several bluegrass CDs and a series of books about historic restaurants in various states. She was posthumously selected as IBMA’s 2012 Print Media Person of the Year for Crowe On the Banjo, a comprehensive biography of banjo legend J.D. Crowe, published by the University of Illinois Press in 2011.
