HAYES, RICK

Rick Hayes was schooled in bluegrass by his father Green Hayes, a well-regarded bluegrass musician and bandleader in the northern Kentucky area for many years. He drifted away from bluegrass for a time to play guitar in a rock band. He eventually came back and began playing with Blue and Lonesome, followed by a stint playing mandolin for the Gibson Brothers. After he came off the road, he and his brother Ron opened the Hayes Brothers Music Center on Mainstrasse in Covington, Kentucky. The theater hosted nationally known bluegrass acts in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Rick did a solo CD in 2008 titled Fly By Night. In 2016, he is operating Rick Hayes Instruments and has built guitars or mandolins for Ron Block, Sierra Hull, Shawn Lane, and Jeff Parker. He also is involved in Hayes Productions Recording Studio and plays mandolin in the Cincinnati area band Nightflyer.
