KARNS, JOSEPH “JOE” (c.1950-)

Joe Karns was involved in local bluegrass in several different ways. He promoted square dances at the Old Germany Hall in Beavercreek, on National Road near Airway Road, which featured the bluegrass band Denny Brown and the Kentucky Travelers. He was a member of the group Bluegrass Special, which was active in the Dayton area in the mid 1970s. He and his brothers Duke and Mike ran the Karns Talent Agency and the Karns Country Caravan from their office in the Crystal Pistol nightclub in Fairborn. They also operated a record label, Karbro Records, which was located at 141 North Broad Street in Fairborn and specialized in country and bluegrass records.
