WOOLUM, DAVID EMON "DAVE" (1912-1986)

Dave Woolum was born in Laurel County, Kentucky but came to Ohio in his teens. In 1954 the Laurel County Partners were organized with Dave playing guitar and singing lead. Dave and the band played on various radio and TV stations around southwest Ohio, including WHBD in Mt. Orab, WPFB in Middletown, WCKY and WKRC-TV in Cincinnati, and WHIO and WHIO-TV in Dayton. Although he never became a full-time musician, he did open for a lot of country acts around the Cincinnati area in the 1950s when there were very few professional bluegrass bands around. In 1960 he became a regular on the Renfro Valley Barn Dance. Later he teamed with Paris Decker, his wife Ruby, and daughter Judy. He recorded for Ark, Arvis, Excellent, Sage and Sand, Melody, Pine Tree, Rem, and Starday. In 1974 he retired to Florida.
